F I N D I N G – Q U I E T

School is up and running. Activities and commitments urging you forward, faster, farther. Noise and confusion swirling. New opportunities, new lessons, new commitments. You know God is there, but it is hard to see Him. You know He’s listening but it is hard to find time to talk to Him. You know He’s speaking, but it is hard to hear Him.

These first few months of the school year seem to steal everything from us. Time. Rest. Peace. Relaxation. Consciousness. Quiet.

Finding quiet in this season can be difficult. But it’s necessary to find it. In the quiet we find peace, rest, rejuvenation, and clear-thinking which come from God. He’s waiting there to remind us of all He is, all He has done, and all He is doing.

“Now stand here quietly before the Lord as I remind you of all the great things the Lord has done for you and your ancestors.” {1 Samuel 12:7}

The passage above is included in Samuel’s farewell address to Israel.

Isn’t it interesting that out of everything he could have said, Samuel chose to tell the people of Israel to be quiet and be reminded of what the Lord had done for them?

It shows us something about ourselves: We forget.

Samuel goes on to remind the Israelites of the amazing things God has done for them. How the Lord rescued them from Egypt. How the Lord forgave them when they turned to idolatry. How the Lord rescued them again and again from oppression.

When we remind ourselves of God’s goodness and faithfulness in our lives it gives us peace, joy, contentment, and rest.

The burden of business is lifted because God is in control. The stress of life vanishes because God has a sovereign plan. The noise and chaos is silenced because God’s presence lives within you.

It doesn’t mean things won’t be busy or hectic or downright crazy. It doesn’t mean life is always going to be easy.

But it does mean we have Someone to provide a quiet, safe place for us. It means we have Someone to walk beside us in life and carry us when we are weak.

Today, wherever you are, stop and close your eyes. Ask God to give a quiet moment to remember. Remember the amazing things He’s done in your life. Remember the strength He’s provided, the answers He’s supplied, the joy He’s given. Breathe in His love. Find the quiet.
